Blackbird is a herald that brings change, they work in pairs where one can be seen the other can be found. One will always lookout for the other or others.

Of all the birds in the garden, blackbird is the medicine man, this bird is the dancer, he will do a rain dance and convince the worms it is raining once they come up he will feast. If rain is due he will wait on the fence for the rain to start and will feast as the worms appear.
If we look to the skys for the seagulls who will lead the rain inland, then we can look to the ground at the blackbirds behaviour, if he is dancing on the ground then it will not rain today, if he is waiting then it will rain later.
The dawn chorus begins with a competition between the the Blackbird, the Cockerel and the Pheasant, with each in their own territory it is difficult to tell who rises before sunrise, but it is only the blackbird who leads others into chorus.

The Blackbird has caught the attention of many a painter, writer, laureate, lyricist and bard. Paul McMcartney in recent times used the symbolism to represent the oppression of slavery, nursery rhymes from the time of Henry VIII describe events surrounding the King, the bards, ovates and druids from more than 2000 years ago were able to relate to the black cloak of the blackbird to represent the night turning to day, the dawn breaking and the start of a new day.

With a cloak as dark as night, a voice as soft as a distant brook, its appearance is always sudden and its departure always seen. Many a myth and secret has been bestowed upon this bird, a creature to be trusted with knowledge as birds of this feather will flock together and will look after whatever is bestowed upon them. The shrill scream of the Blackbird will warn everything around of impending danger, the calm serene song of the Blackbird will bring meloncholy tones to every dawn chorus. The Blackbird will happily eat the berries of the Rowan and as such affords the protection and calm to all around them.

The blackbird can be acknowledged as the medicine man, the creature who wil bring healing, the black gloss of it’s feathers implies the other side, the green shine seen in the light of day confirms the healing elements are being carried to you by this messenger. He shows you the green as a reminder of new growth, just as he dances when there is no rain, sings to celebrate a new day, he is showing you the green shine to his feathers as a reminder and a promise of what is to come. A new dawn, a new day, a fresh beginning, the orange to his beak is the colour of the sacral chakra, representing fertility, birth and creativity.

The Bull has been recognised as a symbol of power across many cultures including the Celts. The favoured white bull being a sign of the Gods walking on this Earth. Zeus is believed to have transformed into a bull to seduce human females before taking them back to his kingdoms. Communities believed in sacrificing their most treasured possession to appease the Gods, the Bull being one of their most prized possessions, it was up to the Druid to perform this task.

The Bull has been and is still seen as the majestic presence since domestic agriculture evolved and for at least the last 4,500 years, across every culture in the world. Masculinity, Paternity, Virility, are some of the traits associated with the spirit of the Bull.

Energy, virility and stamina are essential qualities needed for the bull to maintain his herd, with the owner afforded status in being able to look after and care for such a valued animal.

Taurus is the Astrological sign for the bull recognised and established in the Mesopotamia region nearly 5,000 years ago. Babylonians establishing the astrology we use today and developed the signs of the Zodiac still used today.

Of the four elements the bull is an obvious Earth element and from the directions it comes from the North, with Arch-Angel Uriel being the guardian. Dependability, reliability and strength are naturally recognised with the bull. Work hard and play hard are almost taken for granted when relating to Taureans. Born between April and May with the exact dates depending on the moon cycle and region determining the exact characteristics that can be expected.

Spiritually the bull is seen as taking control, dominating and establishing boundaries, protecting what is his and defending his right to be. Once he has settled himself he is happy to self indulge and accept the luxuries he has created. Fiercely ambitious and determined the Bull will beligerently refute any change to his circumstance, the comforts of continuity means they don’t like change.

Celtic Kingdoms, communities built by Druids and ruled by royalty held the Bull with high regard, the Skye Cave revealed its secrets in 2012 from the most Northern parts of Scotland and the “Isle of Skye.” A single bridge made of wood leads to the suggestion that Celtic culture is linked to the Ancient Mesopotamia Civilisations through the musical instruments, with the wooden bridge being linked to the Lyre an ancient Harp like instrument made from the horns of an Oxen. Nine strings stretched across the two horns, each string representing one the nine worlds or plains of existence found in so many cultures. More recently experiments have proved the Solfeggio frequencies attuned to each string have a direct effect on promoting health but they have been slimmed down to just six for the purposes of the study.

The Bull symbolism is represented by almost every culture since the beginning of time. Pictographs from ancient Mesopotamia, to Persia, Greece and Hieroglyphs within the pyramids of Egypt, Cunieform the ealiest recorded writing. To look at the Kabbalha and Jewish scripts from 2000 years ago and we find mentions of the Bull in the Garden of Eden, with Lilith refusing to Obey Adam. Lilith being represented as a term of fertility and the symbolism of the Bull.

Facing North we welcome the moon, by looking East we welcome fresh beginnings, looking West we see where we are going. Crab will appear and offer guidance when asked after this ritual at early evening.

One belief system is that we have at the very least 9 guides surrounding us at any one time. One for each of the four directions, one above us, one below us, one that will stand within our energy, and one that travels on each side of us through life.
Crab will travel beside us or beneath us.

Many Cultures recognise the Crab as sacred because it will move to be alongside you. The right claw symbolises East and one half of the Moon. The left claw symbolises West and the other half of the moon, when the claws are closed it represents protection and either full moon or new moon. A surprise is coming or a solution has been found and all is well. The new moon represents purity and being ready to receive.

Crab will hold onto something until it loses a claw, it will not let go. With one claw it will continue its journey with perseverence, courage and determination. It will continue to grab every opportunity and work with it.

Crab moves sideways for a reason, it avoids confrontation and it catches its prey off guard, they don’t see it coming. When in danger it will move backwards or dig and cover itself. The harsh waves of the sea against rocks is no problem for this creature, it simply moves under and around the rocks. Predators from the sky have difficulty seeing the Crab because it is the perfect camoflague, it will carry rocks, pebbles or coat itself in sand. Its strong hind legs make it the perfect digger, it will dig itself in by going backwards while defending itself with its claws…

The Moon being divine feminine, the ocean representing the ebb and flow of the feminine wiles. The crab will appear in moments of indecision. To go forward we sometimes need to side-step. The tough shell of the Crab represents all you have been through and the fact that you can adapt and keep going.

Crabs greatest message is that when times are tough and we can’t move forward it is possible to surrender to the moon or the ocean and just go with the flow. The ebb and flow of the ocean will carry you to new lands where you can once again place your feet firmly into Mother Earth and let her take the weight while you rest.

The spring equinox brings the Puffin to land and to breed, they will have one child, both parents will sit on the egg until it hatches and feed it until it can swim. Once the chick can swim it will take to the deep waters for safety and food, it will return after three to five years with a mate and it will produce young in the safety of family and the colony. It is not unknown for the puffin to use the nest twice in a season with one chick each time.

The Puffins are sacred peace keepers, taking to the sky they can fly at speeds of more than 50mph, taking to the seas and diving to depths of 200ft, when they are on land they are mating, nesting and raising their young. They will fly when the skies are blue, swim through the severest storms and make land when it is time to love and be loved. It is not unknown for them to use a rabbit warren as a nesting site and will share a warren with rabbits.

The Puffin loses its drab and dull colours in the spring, the dark colours are for hiding from predators in the seas. Come spring with the sunshine, the land and a time to love, it changes its colours and the bright orange legs, multi-coloured beak, pure colours of black and white. This is why it is called a Sea Parrot.

The male will parade and exhibit his undying love, it will crowd its wings to form the perfect heart shape announcing to everyone that he is in his territory with his loved one. Naturally monogamous these birds will pair from the age of three and have been known to live to the age of 50, capable of travelling 2,000 miles in flocks of up to 40, they travel at night when the air is cool and can travel up to heights of 28,000 feet. Known across the globe the swan is recognised by many cultures and societies and have become symbols for Love, fertility and fidelity.

The veils between worlds are at their thinnest during the festival of Samhain and Beltain, these are the Druid/Pagan festivals that welcome the changing of the seasons, the darker nights of winter and the brighter days of summer. The name swan is one of the oldest names in England, this itself in our ever-changing world emphasizes the importance of the Swan.
It is said that two Swans drank from “The Well of Urd” and such was the purity of the water that they turned white and earned their place within the realms of Asgard.

The Celtic lands have Freya to bring in the love of new life, the east wind and fertility and love of life in abundance. Outside the Celtic lands the Tortoise and Turtle travel from the North heading South and bring with them a life that brings fertility everywhere they tread. With a foot in each of the four directions representing the four seasons, the four times of the day, dawn, midday, sunset and night, each foot also represents father, mother, wife and child.

Just as the spirit world has no time, the tortoise teaches us that there is only now, the present and it is this moment that counts. The tortoise moves from the dark into the light, on its left is the East with sunrise each morning. Ahead and above is the South and midday with the glory that each day brings. On its right is the West and sunset bringing the calm serenity of nightfall. The North is the night and where tortoise travels from.

In the east we have Tibetan, Indian, Persian, Mongolian to name but a few of the ancient cultures that create mandalas, to come together as a culture and create an image of the imprint of the underside of a Tortoise or Turtle to spend hours, days, weeks and months working on one mandala and to then wipe it away in one gesture of sacred rite… as an act of acceptance that life is eternal and that a moment is now.

Here in the UK we attract the Leatherback Sea Turtle to our western coasts, where once both Tortoises and Turtles would have been in abundance. Our so called progress has reduced us to just one resident turtle. The Unicorns roamed the Earth and were noticeable up to around the 4th century, they were similar in appearance to horses with their main differences being a powerful muscle filled broad chest and front legs, their back legs were also powerful and capable of great strength, the length and thickness of their mane and tail and of course a horn extending from their forehead. The significant difference between horses today and unicorns are a horse has one toe and a unicorn has three. (A unicorn incarnate (horse) is notorious for throwing shoes)

A Unicorns character can be described as “delicate, fragile, loving, loyal, faithful.” They naturally attune to one person and will lovingly remain with that person through life. It is their devotion to one person that contributed to the extinction of the physical species. It is also these character traits that betray them as incarnates.

It is known the Romans winged God Pegasus is a reason for the unicorn to be portrayed with wings, the confusion and furtive imagination of the artists and historians since that time are to blame.
To see a true representation of a Unicorn ask a younger child to draw a unicorn, it will probably be white, horse like, with a big flowing mane, bushy tail and with a single horn. A child using their own words will explain that the unicorn is a symbol of unconditional love.

The blonde mane of the unicorn has been likened to the blonde hair of a celibate maiden, the unicorn will only come to the pure of heart. Many a Celtic Princess tamed the unicorn with an apple, many a witches brew or spell has the added magic from the horn or hair of the unicorn.

A Unicorn is an earth tied free spirit, an animal when it dies does not become a unicorn but a unicorn can incarnate as an animal, the animal closest in shape and manner is the horse. The horse is not the only animal known to be a unicorn incarnate. My Saint Bernard (Tinkerbell) lived on this earth for 14 years, she weighed more than 12 stone, 76kg. A big clumsy bundle of love and a unicorn incarnate, I currently have another dog as a companion and am waiting for her to reveal herself, also as a unicorn incarnate.
